The Object:
AG Reederei Norden-Frisia has been operating ferry services to the islands of Norderney and Juist for more than 150 years. A total of twelve ferries, passenger ships and cargo ships transport around 2.3 million guests every year and provide a year-round scheduled service to the islanders and guests of the two East Frisian islands.
The project:
To ensure that the ferries are always ready for use, they go to the shipyard at least once a year, where they are overhauled and modernized or extended if necessary. In spring 2023, the shipping company modernized the Frisia I's public toilets as part of the annual inspection: Among other things, the passenger-car ferry received new washbasin fittings from CONTI+.
The challenge:
Holger Eilers, Nautical Inspector at Norden-Frisia Reederei: "Previously, infrared fittings from another manufacturer were installed on the ferry. However, these were very susceptible to faults. With up to 1,300 passengers per route, we have a very high throughput and only short lay times in the ports. It is therefore essential for us that the valves work reliably.
The solution:
Holger Eilers, Nautical Inspector at Norden-Frisia Reederei: "We opted for the CONTI+ lino SofTouch. The self-closing taps have proven cartridge technology and are very easy to operate. The stainless steel housing is also hygienic, easy to clean and robust. This makes the taps perfect for use on our ferries." Thanks to its compact design, the CONTI+ lino SofTouch also fits in well with the small washbasins in the Frisia I's public toilets.
For Holger Eilers, resource conservation and ease of maintenance were also important criteria: "The fact that we can set the water running time of the taps ourselves means we save valuable drinking water. Another plus point is the ease of maintenance: even if a spare part needs to be replaced on a fitting, our machine operator Hermann Harms can do this independently during operation."
Products used:
The CONTI+ lino SofTouch was chosen. The self-closing taps feature tried-and-tested cartridge technology and are child's play to operate.
