Wave Pool Bad Zwischenahn

The object:

Young and young-at-heart water lovers had to wait four years before they could finally plunge back into the waters of the indoor wave pool on the Zwischenahner Meer. After a forced break due to coronavirus and a complete renovation of the pool, which was built in 1977, invited guests celebrated the reopening in April 2024. 30 trades were involved in the extensive work. The total costs amounted to around 8.3 million euros. The wave pool is now up to date again in terms of energy efficiency, has optimized accessibility and the installation of a new area for children with a shallow pool and water games is particularly popular with the youngest bathers.

The task:

The entire pool was gutted and rebuilt so that the ageing wave pool could once again invite locals and spa guests alike. The entire technology in the basement was replaced with energy-efficient systems. The ventilation systems were also replaced with heat recovery systems: for example, internal heat gains can now be fed back into the ventilation system and contribute to heating the room air. The ventilation, heating system and swimming pool technology are linked by new measurement and control technology. The sum of all measures leads to a significant reduction in CO2 emissions: Compared to before, the wave pool now uses 20 percent less electricity and 30 percent less natural gas.

The challenge:

When renovating the shower rooms and sanitary facilities, the operators opted for shower panels, urinal controls and the CNX water management system from CONTI+. Due to the special conditions on site, CONTI+ maxx washbasin taps with BLE converters were also used, which are controlled via the CONTI+ Service APP.

The solution:

Heller Haustechnik was commissioned with the technical building equipment. In addition to the CONTI+ CONGENIAL shower panels for the ladies' and men's showers, project manager Holger Liebig also opted for CONTI+ maxx washbasin taps with BLE converters and an electronic trap control system for the urinals. Shower panels and urinal controls are integrated into the CNX water management system from CONTI+. As no BUS cable could be laid to the washbasins, an alternative had to be found for controlling the washbasin taps. The solution: CONTI+ maxx washbasin taps with BLE converter. The converter enables wireless communication between the CONTI+ Service APP and the taps. The app can be used to manage, program and read individual taps. In combination with the CNX water management system, all hygiene requirements are met. And so, not least thanks to the ingenuity of CONTI Sanitärarmaturen GmbH, water rats and wave pool enthusiasts have a new home in Bad Zwischenahn.

“I was already familiar with CONTI+ products from other projects and therefore knew that the company has a great deal of experience, particularly in the area of refurbishing existing buildings, and therefore has a solution for every problem. Building a new sanitary room is always easy, but it often becomes difficult when you want to bring outdated shower and washrooms up to the current state of the art and hygiene requirements with as little effort as possible. For example, connections have to be made to existing pipes and floor drains are not always where you want them. The CONTI+ team was always on hand to advise us with its specialist knowledge. The simple operation of the CNX water management system and the CONTI+ Service APP were also important to us. After all, both the technical staff and the swimming pool attendant must be able to operate them during operation. Thanks to the training, all employees are well prepared. That's what good cooperation looks like to me,” says Holger Liebig from Heller Haustechnik.

Udo Stukenbrock, Key Account Manager at CONTI Sanitärarmaturen GmbH and responsible for the semi-public sector, was instrumental in overseeing the project. He adds: “As is so often the case in somewhat older buildings, the connections for the showers came out of the ceiling. We offer hood extensions for our shower panels that are color-coordinated with the panels and thus conceal unsightly surface-mounted pipes. A simple and visually appealing solution that we use again and again for renovations in existing buildings.”

Product application:

- CONTI+ CONGENIAL shower panels with hood extension and seamlessly integrated soap dish in the RAL color white

- CONTI+ maxx washbasin taps with BLE converter as a stand-alone solution

- CONTI+ iQ urinal flush control S10: electronic trap control for installation behind the urinal ceramic appliance

- CONTI+ lino wall-mounted mixer tap K10 with mixer, stainless steel

- CNX water management system

- CONTI+ Service APP

Built in 1977, the wave pool on the Zwischenahner Meer shines in new splendor after a complete renovation.

When renovating the shower rooms and sanitary facilities, the operators opted for fittings, shower panels and the CNX water management system from CONTI+.

The smallest bathers will feel right at home here: the extra shallow pool with slide and whale.

In addition to the energy-efficient refurbishment, the spa architecture from the 1970s was also to be preserved - after all, this is what gives the spa its charm.
